Choosing a program at Shotokan Karate Academy Lehi

The academy says it teaches Shotokan Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Its website lists a juniors program for ages 5 to 12, teen classes for ages 13 to 17, and adult classes. The business description also names a program for preschoolers, and a summer camp runs as well.

The school says it has taught in Lehi since 2019. Its teaching follows the traditional line of Gichin Funakoshi and his student Hidetaka Nishiyama, the website states. In that tradition, character and mental discipline count as much as physical skill.

Fitting classes into the Lehi week

Classes run Monday through Thursday, from the afternoon into the evening, and the dojo is closed Friday through Sunday. Families with more than one child can compare the age bands to see which evenings line up.

Lehi averages 22.7 inches of precipitation and 48.8 inches of snow a year, per NOAA normals for 1991 to 2020. The town records 5960 heating degree days and 836 cooling degree days over the same period.

Starting with Shotokan Karate Academy Lehi

The website points new students to its class schedule and to an offer it describes as available online only. Opting in to that offer means agreeing to periodic texts and emails from the school.

The academy names itself a member of the Utah Association of Martial Arts, which its Sensei Jordan Diaz co-founded.

Before a first class, check the age band: juniors stop at 12 and the teen program starts at 13.

Joining this dojo has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health. As an adult, I was honestly a bit nervous about starting Karate, but this dojo is exceptionally welcoming to students of all ages. Before choosing this school, I visited several other dojos in the area, and none matched the level of authenticity I found here. This dojo stands out for its strong commitment to traditional martial arts values—a level of depth and respect that is truly refreshing to see.

5 out of 5 Zachary A. Quote shortened.

This dojo has a great lesson structure and format. The environment is one of encouraging and supporting others in their learning journey and giving your best effort in your own. I appreciate that parents can stay informed and involved in the curriculum and belt advancement process. Sensei Jordan is always willing to address concerns or answer questions. He is very invested in helping the students become the best they can be.
